What's the competition?
Simply send us a set of (minimum 2 and maximum 5) photos of yourself wearing the item/s you purchased from us. The photos should show the versatility of the item/s when wearing different outfits. Entry is one per person and it closes on the 30th November 2008. This competition is open to all Australian and International customers. Ayla's Fashionaid Extravaganza

As some of you would have known, Ayla (Ms. World Australia Victorian Finalist) supported Fashionaid - a fundraising event last Saturday. According to Ayla, she had a ball, being able to not only participate in the fashion show, but also meeting some fantastic people. One of them was Vince Collosimo. Lucky girl! She also had a ball helping to raise funds for cancer research. Her next event will be Pink Ribbon Day Breakfast and the Neo-natal Unit Luncheon.

Baubles, Bubbles & Bags bag as a raffle prize

The last function we helped Ayla with was for the TLC for kids Birthday Gala Dinner, which was held on the 22nd August this year. Ayla has informed us that the Gala Dinner raised over $100,000, which is a fantastic effort by all involved. We are glad that we were able to help even in a small way.

Ayla's next function will be for Fashionaid, which will be held on Saturday, 11th October 2008. Click here for more details on this fabulous event. This event proudly supports the Fight Cancer Foundation and the Fred Hollows Foundation. We hope they will raise as much, if not more funds than they did for the TLC for kids Gala Dinner.

Baubles, Bubbles & Bags is proud to announce that we are sponsoring the Victorian finalist of Miss World Australia 2009, Miss Ayla Selamoglu in helping her raise the funds for the charities that she is supporting. This 21 year old is not only beautiful but has many other qualities that would definitely be essential in winning the title of Miss World Australia. She is currently in her final year at Swinburne University, acquiring a Bachelor of Science in Psychology/Psychophysiology. To find out more about Ayla, read the interview we had with her.

Why did you choose to enter the Miss World Australia pageant?

I guess at first I just wanted to discover a new experience. But now I know that being a contestant gives you the opportunity to help out others in need.

There are some who might think that this pageant is just another beauty contest. Can you explain what the Miss World Australia pageant is also about?

There is so much more involved other than beauty. In fact a lot of people may not know but the contestants are judged on 5 separate categories. These are Communication & Commitment Speech, Swimsuit/Healthy Body Image, Evening Gown/Poise and Elegance Judging, Talent Judging, and most importantly “Beauty With A Purpose” where how much effort and time each contestant has committed to raising much needed funds for charities is taken into consideration.

What are the charity organisations that you currently support?

Currently I am supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), The Royal Children's Hospital, Variety Children's Charity and the Brains Sciences Institute (BSI) Research.

Why these organisations?

Firstly, for the NBCF, a member of my family has been affected by breast cancer in the past, so I thought it would be more than appropriate to support the NBCF. As for the children's charities, I love children and considering that they are our future then I believe they require lots of assistance and taking care of. And as for the BSI, this institute is part of my university and I am constantly using materials, research equipment etc. in order to undertake research in my final year project at university, so I thought it would be ideal for me to be able to give something back to my university since they have given me an education for the past 4 years.

What would you do if you won the Miss World Australia title?

As I've mentioned before helping out others in need is important to me so this would be my number one priority. I would aim to assist as many charities as possible and encourage others to be involved in these worthy causes.

What are your other ambitions, besides winning the Miss World Australia title?

My other aspirations are to be academically successful and in doing so to be able to make important contributions in the area of research.

E-Shop is back on track

After 2 full weeks of updating the E-Shop, I can truly say that it's back on track! More products have been uploaded, plus it's now a secure site. I am looking at bringing in more new and exciting products to compliment the bags that we have. The Bag Organiser is one. It's basically what I call - a bag within a bag. A handy little contraption that has many compartments for the things that you always have to carry in your bag. The great thing about it is that, each time you change to a different bag, all you have to do is take the Bag Organiser out and transfer it into your new bag. So, no more scrounging around trying to find your essentials and no more fuss when you change your bag!

Another handy innovation is the Bag Hanger. It has got a hook on it where you can put on the table and hook your bag underneath! No more leaving that beautiful bag of yours on the floor!

So, look out for these coming attractions in the next few months! I will keep you updated as to when they will be out.

Life Is Like a Box of Chocolates...

Life is indeed like a box of chocolates...you just never know what you're going to get. That is the case with computers too! This past two weeks have been a rather challenging experience for me. Running your own business from home is no easy task and running an online business is even harder if you're not a born techie! I learned never to click onto something just because you think it might help you.

I found out that there was an updated version of the program that I used for my E-Shop. So, having "itchy" fingers, decided to update it of course - completely ignoring the small print that warned - Please do not update if you have made modifications to the original template - or something along those lines. Low and behold, my E-Shop disappeared! Into technological oblivion that is! I didn't give up. I had to re-upload the whole program again, including all of my pictures and information. It took me around 3 days to finish and in fact I got to upload more products onto my E-Shop. Then - having still not learned my lesson - I decided to put in some added security not on my E-Shop but on my database, therefore not enabling me to reach my site at all! Shock horror! That meant - no sales AGAIN!

Thanks to my wonderful host provider, everything is on again. But, now, the template is screwed. So, my dear customers, please bear with me while I "clear my cache" and fix up my E-Shop. You can still browse through it and make purchases, the only difference is that it doesn't look as spunky as it should right now. Meanwhile, enjoy the showcase.

Caring For Your Jewellery

Jewellery, be it one with precious stones, gold, silver or even just the beaded ones, can last a long time if you care for it properly.

Here are some tips to make your jewellery last.

Silver:

Silver reacts with air therefore causing it to tarnish. Follow these steps to help reduce the rate of it tarnishing.

Make sure you keep each piece of jewellery separately, wrapped in glad wrap or its own pouch or box.

The piece has to be cleaned before storage too. Silver scratches easily, so use a soft cloth to wipe it down.

If you have silver bracelets or chains, make sure they are either hung or laid flat. This will lessen the chances of them knotting or entangling.

Putting a piece of white chalk in your storage area will also help slow down the tarnishing of the silver.

Lastly, if you are wearing your silver jewellery, make sure you do not spray any perfume or let your make-up get into contact with them. Put the jewellery on after your perfume and make-up have set.

Beaded & Fashion Jewellery:

As with silver jewellery, each piece needs to be kept separately. This will prevent scratching & cracking (glass pieces).

Wipe them down occassionally as it can gather a bit of dust. You can do this by using a soft cloth.

And with all jewellery, make sure you let your perfume and make-up set before putting them on.

Precious Stones:

Like all other jewellery, make sure each piece is kept separately. This will prevent them from getting scratched.

This article might seem dry, but, trust me, you'll be thankful that you have these tips handy.

When one thinks of accessorising, images of jewellery or scarves would often pop up. Many seem to forget the fact that you can also accessorise with bags. Yes, the main accessory that is also useful at the same time. Especially in summer where the dressing is more casual and light, we need bags to vamp up our whole outfit. Take for example, your wearing a simple white dress with minimal jewellery, say silver, lift up your outfit with a large or medium bag with great colours like green or blue or even orange.

If you don't want to overdo it, then add a bag that has pastel colours. Remember, you don't have to stick to black all the time!

Service Please....

I love shopping. It doesn't matter if I don't end up with anything, but the joy of looking at so many beautiful things just gets my adrenaline pumping. Sad, but true. But what makes my day is when a genuine salesperson actually comes up and firstly, aknowledges you and secondly, bother to serve you or others for that matter, when we do need help, without having to ask for it. I don't mind if the salesperson is busy serving someone else and cannot bear a minute to serve you yet, but what irks me is when a salesperson - who is dressed up to the nines like a model, tries to act like one, would prefer to stand at the counter doing her paperwork rather than serving her customers! I feel sorry for the people who own the shops, for I know, being a businesswoman that if you own the place you would not be acting that way...you want the business, you don't want bad press.

Chadstone just opened up a new section encompassing a myriad of what I would term as low to mid level budget "boutiques". They are located just next to Toys 'r' Us. Wanting to both check out the new shops and also look for a new dress for an upcoming party, I decided to venture there. Nice stuff. Nice looking staff...but unfortunately, they were too busy going through the racks and making sure the hangers were in line, the clothes were placed in the right position and oh, how can I forget doing paper work! This amidst the fact that the shops were swamped with customers. There were people trying out clothes but not once did I hear any of the salesgirls asking if their sizes were fine, or how the fit was etc. Not a word. Not even a hello or a smile to aknowledge your existence. Did they know what they were supposed to do? Were they aware that as a salesperson they were supposed to SERVE their customers? I remember struggling to get a dress off a rack that was too high for me to reach, but neither girls offered to get it for me. In fact, one walked right pass me and the other just stood at the counter doing her paperwork. I know they might be young, but seriously, if these shops want to survive their existence in Chadstone where there are plenty of other shops with much better service, the bosses better get a crack on their employees. And the girls working there have to remember, without the customers, there are no sales, no sales means no job.

Be an Individual

We all know how most of us can fall into the hands of fashion and become fashion victims. Following the latest fashion fads just because it looks good on models, doesn't mean it would necessarily look good on us. Furthermore, it doesn't help when all the budget chain stores seem to be encouraging us to succumb to these fads by selling them really cheap! Honestly though, we would all LOVE to be with the "in" crowd, but how many times have we bought something that is cheap, is "in", only to discover once we get home and back to reality that it does not suit us at all?

I personally believe in having your own personal style. Something that is classic but at the same time fashionable because it is still up to date. There are many rules out there to follow when it comes to fashion, but I have 3 rules that I always adhere to when buying clothes, jewellery or any kind of fashion accessory for myself.

1. Make sure it fits!
Remember - sometimes, different clothes are cut differently and sometimes you might have to go up a size or two - DO IT! You can always alter something that is bigger to fit you perfectly, but not neccessarily something that is small.

2. Pick a colour that suits you.
Outside mirrors can be daunting - I know! But, sometimes, the lighting outside is different from that in the changing rooms. Go out and see yourself in different lighting conditions.

3. Trust your own instincts!
This is the most important rule there is. Sales people will usually tell you how good or great or fantastic you look in something, although you know otherwise. Don't fall into that trap. If you are not sure about something, have them put the outfit/item on hold for you and get a second opinion from someone you trust. Even if you cannot think of anyone elsem you come around the next time and when you feel less pressured, what you might like before might not seem as appealing then.

I hope this tips would help some of you out there. It might seem like common sense while you're reading this, but we all know how often we make these same mistakes - I know I sometimes do!
